Rough sleepers and the cold weather
With the colder weather now upon us the City Council is making a special plea for residents to help them to offer support to people sleeping rough. The City’s rough sleeper outreach team works tirelessly to engage with rough sleepers and the homeless to help make sure they get the support they need.
Local Action Team Meeting
The Brunswick and Adelaide Police Local Action Team meeting was held on 20th November at the Cornerstone Centre, and was attended by our Chairman, Susan Hunter, together with other local residents associations and our two ward councillors.
Police and a recent LAT meeting
After a summer of repeated and in some cases criminal disturbances, the local police support community officers (PSCOs) are back on the beat. Julie has returned from long-term sick leave and will be patrolling alternate days with Graham which we believe will help reduce excessive noise, anti-social behaviour, littering, dog fouling and suspected criminal activity such as drug dealing and discarded…
Maintenance of the gardens
As Council budgets become tighter and resources strain to keep up standards, unfortunately maintenance of our public gardens is not of the highest priority. A senior Council official recently stated that if budget cuts continue to be necessary at the present rate, there may be little or nothing left for public parks and gardens by…
Communal rubbish bins survey
We were asked by our Ward Councillor, Ollie Sykes, for a view on how residents now feel about communal black bins for the garden squares. So we mailed our membership and invited comments. Only 10% responded, which is disappointing for an important subject on which everybody seems to have an opinion! Responses were mixed with…
Dog controls in the gardens
Following a number of complaints from residents about the large numbers of dogs congregating in particularly Adelaide Crescent gardens, and a sometimes intimidating group of dog owners there, we asked the Council for a statement about the current controls, given that Brunswick Square has a ban on dogs. This was the response we received from…
Palmeira Mansions service roads
If ever there were a success story for an action group of residents then this is it. For years the unadopted service roads in front of the two terraces of Palmeira Mansions have deteriorated and become a car park for freeloaders and abandoned vehicles. Nobody was sure who owned these roads and the Council refused…
Late bar application withdrawn
An application for late hours licensed premises at 61A Western Road, the yard between Aumthong and Grubbs, has been withdrawn following numerous objections, including one from FOPA. Brighton Bar Rooms had applied for alcohol sales to 2am during the week and 3am on fridays and saturdays. This gave rise to concerns about late night noise…
Police Local Action Team Meeting
The Brunswick and Adelaide Police Local Action Team meet every six weeks. This is an excellent regular forum for residents to meet their PCSOs and directly discuss policies and actions related to local policing. Our Ward Councillor Ollie Sykes attended the Meeting on 19th December.
Dog fouling in the gardens
You may have read recently that a City Councillor is calling for a crackdown on dog fouling. We are also receiving complaints about the number of dog using the Crescent gardens. Despite significantly effective measures to control this anti-social health hazard over the years, the incidence of dog fouling in the gardens continues to be…
